In my most recent works, I've taken to exploring the concept of black space, an all encompassing void. This space is reminiscent of the human mind, where trauma and intrusive thoughts originate. At the same time, this space consumes our fears, and all of the thoughts we never end up speaking to another.

This first piece, Observer, is a line drawing done in Posca pen on black canvas, with a fragment of rendering done in oil paint. I've been told that the figure in this piece appears to be losing themself as their body is reduced to the contour line. In the same conversation, I've heard the opposite--that the figure is coming into existence. I think that both of these theories can be true, considering the nature of a void which is ultimately balanced.

This piece, Scope, is a multimedia painting on Aquaboard, consisting of colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylic. The painting of fragmented eyes has been relevant to me regarding this recent project. There's an undeniable horror to being watched in the dark. The eyes, paired with the black void behind them, are one way I am able to delve into the human psyche via paint.
